Incontinence (Women & Men)

Incontinence in adults refers to the involuntary loss of urine or feces, and it can significantly impact an individual’s quality of life. The World Health Organization has estimated that up to 20% of all adults worldwide may experience some form of urinary incontinence.

Generally, urinary incontinence is more common in women than in men. Here are some estimates based on age group:

In community-dwelling adult women, estimates suggest that the prevalence of urinary incontinence is up to 40%.

Age-Specific Estimates:

Younger Women (Under 30): The prevalence of urinary incontinence tends to be lower in younger women, with estimate up to 15%.

Middle-Aged Women (30-60): The prevalence increases with age, and in middle-aged women, it is estimated to be up to 30%.

Older Women (Over 60): Among women over the age of 60, the prevalence of urinary incontinence can be higher, ranging up to 40% or more.

Pelvic floor physiotherapy, or Kegels can dramatically help with pelvic floor strength. Both men and women are candidates for the Emsella chair which stimulates over 11,000 Kegels in a half hour session.
